I’m leading this list with two yoga studios and a meditation center. Why? Because these are some of the best prevention & recovery tools we have. But, please don’t go to just any yoga class in search of emotional and spiritual growth. Yoga was never meant to be a fitness program. Here in Columbia we are privileged to have at least two studios devoted to personal growth – each filled with dedicated, talented teachers, and each offering a slightly different style. Check out AlleyCat yoga and YogaSol to complement the work you are doing in psychotherapy.
SMD is dedicated to study and practice of insight meditation, based on Theraveda Buddhist ideals, teachings, and practice. The community is gentle and welcoming to people of all faiths and backgrounds. Beginning meditation classes, retreats, and advanced classes are offered throughout the year.
Daniel Boone Regional Library
Yes, your therapist is suggesting the local library as a mental health resource! Most of the books I recommend are available – for free – at dbrl. Their downloadable e-book and audio book collection is amazing!! If that weren’t enough, they also host innumerable community events where anyone can find a warm welcome. Check out their calendar of events for fun, intellectual curiosity, and social connection.
